Bílý Potok (Liberec District)

Bily Potok ( German Weissenbach ) is a municipality in the north of the Czech Republic in Okres Liberec, Liberec Region.

Bily Potok is located at the headwaters of the little river Smědá ( Wittig ).

History

Bily Potok was founded in 1594 by Melchior of Rederns. In the 18th century Bily Potok was marked by diverse commercial businesses community. Large parts of them had specialized in the manufacture of paper from rags. Also, allows two mills, sawmills prove eleven and three mills. Was seen general and Bily Potok is a municipality in which the wood industry and wood processing played an important role and plays, as the basis of a sawmill in the district zadní Studánka is recognizable. Structures

  • Church of the Holy Trinity. In its place there was until 1888 a chapel. The church was consecrated in 1890. Outside the church there is a fountain and a monument to the victims of the First World War.
  • The school building near the church was built in the years 1904-1906 in Art Nouveau style.
  • Road to Smědava: 1893-1895 the road was built along the river SMEDA. As difficult proved to be the rock of the Jizera Mountains.
