Bin Ueda

Ueda Bin ( Jap.上 田 敏; born October 30, 1874 in Tokyo, † July 9, 1916 ) in Tokyo, actually Yanagimura Ueda (上 田 柳 村) was a Japanese poet, critic, translator and reconnaissance. He was a co-editor of Bungakukai Magazine and he was still well-known works of French and English literature, especially the French symbolists, in rhyme into Japanese.

Life

He was born the eldest son of Lehnsvasallen Keiji Ueda (上 田 絅 二) in Tokyo. It was after the completion of literary studies at the Tokyo Imperial University, professor first at the Higher Normal School Tokyo ( later Tokyo University of Education ), and then at his alma mater, together with Natsume Soseki as a successor to Koizumi Yakumo.

Through his creative scientific talent said he got a high reputation. From Koizumi Yakumo his talent to express themselves in English hailed as a talent, as it was just "one of ten thousand " students. He was familiar with many exotic languages ​​and possessed a profound knowledge of classical Japanese literature. In 1908 he traveled to study in Europe ( Paris); after his Rückkerhr to Japan, he was professor at the University of Kyoto. Two years later he accepted a position as advisor to the literary department at the Keio University.

He died suddenly in 1916, at the age of 41 years, from a kidney ailment at his home in Tokyo.
