Bio-Layer Interferometry

The bio -layer interferometry measures the binding of molecules to each other on the basis of the change in refractive index upon binding. It is a label -free method for the determination of protein-protein interactions.

Principle

The bio -layer interferometry measures the refractive index before and after binding of molecules to molecules which have previously been coated onto a surface. By the binding of the layer thickness is increased on the surface, thereby changing the refractive index. The method requires, as well as the surface plasmon resonance spectroscopy, relatively high concentrations of molecules to be tested, but can also be performed with non-purified samples.
