Biology by Team

Biology Team (BIT; Biology by team ) is the first and only Austrian biology competition for AHS ( General education colleges).

BIT was filed for the German Innovation Award for Sustainable Education and was among the 13 "best of " nominated projects. BIT allowed in 2008 for the first time Austria's participation in the European Science Olympiad.

Concept

In biology particularly interested high school students across the course of the competition deepen their knowledge and expand their methodological skills. As part of an optional exercise is carried out in modules on key topics that are selected annually by a team of teachers. Special emphasis is also placed on practical work as well as from the school year 2004/ 05 on teamwork. In April, a two-day final competition will take place, have with one pupils of participating schools to solve different tasks in which groups of six. A jury consisting of people from academia and industry as well as the teachers care, evaluated the results and their presentation.

The concept was developed by a team of teachers in cooperation with the AHS Department of the Pedagogical Institute in Carinthia. Since 2007, BIT is based at the Centre for Didactics of Natural Sciences of the University of Education Carinthia.

Mottos

The first competition was in 2002/ 03 under the motto: In the bottom of the hell 's going on. Other topics were beautiful, but dangerous, www - world wide water 1 and 2, Expedition forest, relationship boxes, Mole perspectives, Biological Time travel, biology at the University, Ecce Homo, as well as biodiversity. The theme of the school year 2013/14 is death in cans.
