Biosolids

Klärdünger is an organic fertilizer made from sewage sludge applied to agricultural land. The use is controversial because of the heavy metals and pollutants that can enter the groundwater and the food chain. The use of sewage sludge as fertilizer is subject to the Sewage Sludge Ordinance ( AbfKlärV ) and the Fertilizer Ordinance ( DüMV ).

About 20% of the dry weight consist of value -giving plant nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus and calcium as well as magnesium and potassium. Legally declared sewage sludge fertilizer exactly top quality, which have agronomic advantages of the direct nutrient effect, the humus supply and the Kalkeffekt are called Klärdünger.

Klärdünger is a substitute for mineral fertilizers from chemical fertilizers industry.

The use of Klärdünger, sewage sludge or sewage sludge compost is banned in Austria for the integrated viticulture, organic - biological viticulture and Biodynamic viticulture.
