Bipolar neuron

A bipolar nerve cell or bipolar cell is a neuron with two extensions, a dendrite and an axon and axon, which are often of similar construction and so does dendritic axon and axon neuritisches be mentioned.

Bipolar cells are specialized sensory neurons for mediating certain sense. As such, they are part of the sensory information transmission for sense of smell, sight, taste, touch, hearing and sense of balance.

They occur overall relatively rare, most commonly as a second neuron of the retina ( see Bipolar cells of the retina ) or in the ganglia of the vestibulocochlear nerve (hearing nerve equilibrium ). If more detailed information is lacking, the term usually refers to members of the retinal cells.
