Birgitt Bender

Birgitt Bender ( born December 28, 1956 in Dusseldorf ) is a German politician ( Alliance 90/The Greens ).

Life and career

After graduating from high school in 1975 in Dusseldorf Birgitt Bender graduated in law in Cologne, Geneva and Freiburg, which she finished in 1980 with the first legal state exam. After the internship she was 1984, the second state examination. Then it was legal counsel or later, Ms. Speaker of Parliament Group of the Greens in the state parliament of Baden- Württemberg. Birgitt Bender is open about their homosexuality.

Party

About her involvement in the women's movement came Birgitt Bender in the 1980s to the Greens. From 1999 to 2007 she served on the party council of the Alliance 90/The Greens in Baden- Württemberg.

Member of Parliament

From 1988 to 2001 Birgitt Bender was a member of the state parliament of Baden -Württemberg. Here she was from 1988 to 1990 chairman of the parliamentary party, the Greens, 1992-2000 Group vice-president, and from 1992 to 1996 chairman of the Committee on Women, Family, education and art.

From 2002 to 2013 she was a member of the German Bundestag and spokeswoman for the Alliance 90/The Greens parliamentary group for health policy. From 2002 to 2005 she was next to drug- policy spokesperson.

Birgitt Bender is always drawn on a state list Baden- Württemberg in the Bundestag. For the 2009 federal election she was elected to # 7 on the country list. For the parliamentary election in 2013, she was nominated at number 11 on the state list and not re-elected ( " My place 11 on the national list was unfortunately not enough to re-entry into the Bundestag - democracy has taken a personal price. " )

Bender was a member of the European Union Parliamentarians German Bundestag. She is also deputy chairman of the German country since 2001 Joint Welfare Association of Baden -Württemberg.
