Birhan Woldu

Birhan Woldu (c. 1981) is an Ethiopian agricultural student who had been in 1985, shown at the Live Aid concert as starving, near- death child in a video of the Canadian reporter Brian Stewart. Thus they became known as "The face of famine" - "the face of famine " notoriety.

Her mother and sister both died during the famine of 1984-1985, Woldu and her father survived.

Her father Ato Woldu they nursed together with nurses on again as she showed a strong will to live against all odds. Brian Stewart sponsored their education. She studied at a college of Agriculture, which receives financial support from the organization African Children's Education Trust support.

Birhan now lives with her father, her stepmother and seven siblings in a stone hut in the Ethiopian village Kwiha (also Quiha written ), which is located between hills and dry river beds in Tigray province, the center of that famine. The family lives of 120 euros a month, which she gets from the Live Aid Trust, and grow from the food that Woldu on a piece of land. Woldu would like to help in the future her father to grow tea and coffee.

Woldu is Orthodox Christian.

In 2004, she appeared as adults in the music video for Band Aid 20s version of Do They Know It's Christmas.

2005 showed Bob Geldof Brian Stewart film a second time as part of the Live 8 concert in London. Then he asked Birhan Woldu on the stage, thanked in their native language for the support of the audience. She stayed for the first part of Madonna on the following appearance ( Like a prayer ) on the stage.
