Birkenhördt

Birkenhördt is a municipality in the Southern Wine Route in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Bad Bergzabern and is a nationally recognized tourist.

Geography

The place is in Wasgau, which is formed from the southern part of the Palatinate Forest and the northern part of the Vosges.

To Birkenhördt and the living space belongs Gehlmühle.

Neighboring municipalities are - clockwise - Silz, Bad Bergzabern, Doerrenbach, Böllenborn, Erlenbach bei Dahn and Vorderweidenthal.

History

In the thirties of the twentieth century Birkenhördt was the district of Bad Bergzabern slammed. With the administrative reform in Rhineland -Palatinate Birkenhördt in 1969 along with most of the communities of the district of Bad Bergzabern in the newly created district Landau - incorporated Bad Bergzabern, which in turn was renamed in 1978 in County Southern Wine Route.

Religion

2012 were 60.3 percent of the population Catholic and 20.6 percent Protestant. The other belonged to a different religion or no religious affiliation were. Catholics belong to the diocese of Speyer, the Evangelical Lutheran Church for Protestant Palatinate.

The local council in Birkenhördt consists of twelve council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 by majority vote, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

Coat of arms

The blazon of the arms is: " From black and gold divided diagonally left, top right an upward left border inverted rotbewehrter, bezungter - and - crowned golden lion, bottom left, a green birch branch with three green leaves ."

It was approved by the district government Neustadt 1969. The Palatinate lion recalls the former belonging to the Palatinate and the birch branch refers talking on the place name.

On boundaries of the municipality there are a total of six cultural monuments, including the Parish Church of St. Gallus

Traffic

Right through the village runs the federal highway 427 Birkenhördt is connected by bus lines 525 ( Bad Bergzabern - Annweiler ) and 548 ( Bad Bergzabern - Dahn ) to the transport network. Nearest train stop is the train station in Bad Bergzabern.
