Birmingham Zoo

The Birmingham Zoo is a zoological garden, which was founded in 1950 in Birmingham, Alabama.

Was opened the zoo in 1955; first attraction was a Monkey Island. In the same year, the zoo received two elephants.

The zoo is 20 acres in size and has 750 animals from 250 species, including many endangered animals. The zoo is maintained since 1999 by a private, non-profit company that focuses mainly on breeding programs. He is, together with the Birmingham Botanical Gardens, in Lane Park, a 90 acre site.
