Biskupice (Prostějov District)

Biskupice ( German Biskupitz ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic. It is eleven kilometers east of Prostějov and belongs to Okres Prostějov.

Geography

Biskupice is located on the right side of the Blata in Hanna. To the east of the hill rises Bezděkov (204 meters). Neighboring towns are Hrdibořice and Svárov in the north, Dub nad Moravou in the northeast, Věrovany in the east, and Viklice Tovačov the southeast, Klopotovice in the south, Hrubčice the southwest, Kralice na Hané in the west and Kralicky in the northwest.

History

Archaeological finds evidence of a settlement of the municipality corridors since the Neolithic period. The name of the village suggests that it was created on episcopal reason. Therefore is probably a time of establishment according to the place in the year 1063 Foundation of the Diocese of Olomouc. The first written mention of Biskupice dates from 1131st

Until 1791 Klopotovice was the location to study Biskupice. 1795 began teaching in the school store Biskupice. Before the abolition of patrimonial regimes in 1848 Biskupice was an abundant century to the reign Prostějov. The place at that time for his cattle was known and there were exhibitions. 1834 lived in Biskupice 371 people; the place consisted of 51 houses. In 1863 a new school building, which had to be extended in 1892 due to higher number of students was formed. 1905 there were 81 children enrolled in school. In 1921, 358 residents of the village. In the same year took place in the course of the land reform, a division of the large estates of William Guttman. The districts Olecka, Konec, V Kote and Dědina merged with Biskupice into one unit. The vicarage is Kralice.

Attractions

  • Chapel of St. Margaret, built in 1767 by the Wischau builder Matous Kolda. In the years 1782 and 1902 were made extensions. The Grade II listed building is situated in the municipality of possession.
