Bismanol

Bismanol represents an alloy of bismuth (Bi ), manganese ( Mn) and iron (Fe), which is used as a material for a strong permanent magnet. The alloy was in 1953 by Edmond Adams et al. at the Naval Ordnance Laboratory, formerly a research facility of the U.S. Navy, developed.

The alloy had the then highest known magnetic energy density, but was largely replaced in the next few decades by the technically better rare earth magnets such as the strong magnetic neodymium-iron- boron and samarium cobalt, the more temperature applications.
