Occurrence
Bismuth occurs naturally as the mineral Paraguanajuatit. In addition Guanajuatit contains bismuth and additionally 6.6% sulfur.
Production and representation
Bismuth selenide may be obtained by reaction of bismuth to selenium.
Properties
Bismuth is a black shiny metallic solid. It is a semiconductor with a trigonal crystal structure and the space group R3m.
Use
Bismuth is used in the semiconductor industry for the production of thin films, and magnetoresistive layers.
