Bjärka-Säby Castle

Castle Bjärka -Säby lies in the Swedish municipality of Linköping in Östergötland, about 18 km south of the city of Linköping.

The manor was founded in the 14th century by Bo Jonsson. The castle was built at that time Bjärkaholm exists today only as a ruin. The castle, which is situated on the lake Stora stands, was built in 1791-1800 by the architect Fredrik Magnus Piper. Its current Baroque style dates from a rebuilding about 100 years later.

Near the castle are two older castle grounds. 1.5 km north are the ruins of the original castle Bjärkaholm from the 14th century. The second system, called the Old Palace, is from the first half of the 17th century and was completed at the beginning of the 18th century with two wing buildings in the Carolingian style.
