The Hermitage Blace (pronounced blatza ) on the Croatian island of Brac is a unique monastery complex.

The Hermitage founded monks, so called Glagolitic priests who have fled from the mainland before the Turkish invasions. The monastery is located a little further in the island interior, not visible from the sea, but is quickly reached after a short walk. Over time, the Hermitage became a progressive agricultural property, which, however, fell with the change of life and of acquisition. The whole valley in which it is located, and neglected the natural succession of vegetation was left.

The hermitage was later used by Father Nikola Milicevic (1887-1963), an ( amateur ) astronomers who studied mathematics and astronomy in Vienna as an observatory. From this place he discovered some so-called novae (Periodic outbursts of stars ) and comets, he was also active in the dissemination of astronomical knowledge and printed its own astronomical journal. In his honor and in memory of this extraordinary place by decision of the International Astronomical Union in 2005 two asteroids, the designations ( 10241 ) " Nikola Milicevic " and ( 10645 ) were added " Brač ". They were discovered on the Croatian Višnjan observatory in 1999.

The Hermitage has been transformed in recent years into a small museum, where you can ( for example, a relatively large telescope of 1935) examine, among other ancient objects from the monarchy, astronomical equipment and a wing. Father Nikola Milicevic has it there set up correctly comfortably in his years and enjoyed by the distance to Rome some liberties (such as the unhindered scientific papers ), who had not other monasteries. Although the monastery is accessible only on foot or by donkey, he has nonetheless leave items such as the telescope or the wings create up there.
