Black Jazz Records was founded in 1971 by pianist Gene Russell ( 1932-1981 ) and Dick Schoryl. In Black Jazz recordings published in the fields of radio, free jazz and soul jazz, including from The Awakening, Calvin Keys, Walter Bishop Jr., Henry Franklin, Doug Carn, Jean Carn, Cleveland Eaton, Kellee Paterson, Chester Thompson and Rudolph Johnson. After the death of Russell ended the activities of the label, whose catalog was acquired by James Hardge early 1990s. This was founded in 1993 in Atlanta, the label Red Beans and Rice Records and released the Black Jazz recordings again on vinyl and as a compact disc
