Black-necked Crane (Grus nigricollis )

The 120 cm long black-necked crane (Grus nigricollis ) is a large gray and white bird with a black head and upper neck. The head has a white background and red eyespot apex spot. The secondaries and primaries are black in color.

This crane breeds mainly in the highlands of Tibet, but also in Ladakh in India. It overwinters in deeper areas in China and Bhutan.

The stock is estimated at 5600-6000 animals. In India, China and Bhutan, the species is protected by law.
