Black Project

Black Project (English: Black Project ) is a colloquial term for a top-secret project. This term was coined by secret defense projects for the U.S. Air Force. The term is also now brought even more closely with the secret Armorcraft Phantom Works ( Boeing) and Skunk Works ( Lockheed Martin) in conjunction. Despite the high secrecy projects or individual details are sometimes known by accident or mistake of secrecy. Many of the projects exist only as a concept studies or do not go beyond the prototype stage.

The term is for projects using classified as top secret, either by government agencies or in-house. Although the term Black Project is still mainly to be found in American military aviation today, this term is spreading further and further to other countries, companies and industries. The term skunkworks has also become a general term for projects that are carried out within the company without the knowledge of management.

The work corresponding development company is often the subject of speculation and conspiracy theories. Projects are usually known only after many years of public. A similar phenomenon from the military and intelligence sector are " Black Operations " or "Black Ops". This covert operations are called, are subject to particularly strict secrecy.
