Blair McClenachan

Blair McClenachan (* about 1751 in Ireland; † May 8, 1812 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania ) was an American politician. Between 1797 and 1799 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Even in his youth came Blair McClenachan from his Irish home to Philadelphia. Later he worked in the commercial, shipping and in the banking industry. During the Revolutionary War he served in a cavalry unit from Philadelphia, which he himself had to set up. McClenachan supported both the Continental Army and the Continental Congress with financial resources. In the years 1790-1795 he was a deputy in the House of Representatives from Pennsylvania. End of the 1790s he joined, founded by Thomas Jefferson Democratic- Republican Party.

In the congressional elections of 1796 McClenachan was elected in the second district of Pennsylvania in the time which meets even in Philadelphia U.S. House of Representatives, where he became the successor of Frederick Muhlenberg on March 4, 1797. Until March 3, 1799, he was able to complete a term in Congress. After his time in the U.S. House of Representatives Blair McClenachan is no longer politically have appeared. He died on 8 May 1812 in Philadelphia, where he was also buried.
