Blaise de Lasseran-Massencôme, seigneur de Montluc

Blaise de Montesquiou - Lasséran - Massencôme, seigneur de Monluc (partly written Montluc ) (* 1502 in Saint -Puy, Canton Valence- sur- Baise, † July 26, 1577 in Estillac, Canton Laplume ) was a French historian, Colonel général the infantry and Marshal of France from 1574 to 1577.

Life

Monluc came from a gentry family in Gascony. He was the eldest son of François de Monluc and his wife amelins de Trai. One of his brothers was Jean de Monluc (around 1503-1579 ). He served under Pierre du Terrail in Italy and won in 1555 during the eight -month defense of Siena great fame. He also took part in the French wars of religion, and was in 1574 by the French king Henry III. appointed Marshal of France. His fame rests, however, on the " Commentaires ", his memoirs that offer an admirable description of contemporary military tactics. The work is written in conversational style and is considered a literary gem.

Monluc is an ancestor of the French statesman, foreign minister and diplomat Charles Maurice de Talleyrand - Périgord ( 1754-1838 ).
