Giant Fish Owl (Bubo blakistoni )

The Giant 's Fish Owl (Bubo blakistoni ) is a species of owl from the kind of eagle owls (Bubo ). Originally it formed together with some other Fischuhus Asia, the genus Ketupa, but this was associated with the owls for a comprehensive molecular biological study. The first description comes from Henry Seebohm.

Description

The Giant Fish Owl reaches a height 60-72 centimeters. The back feathers are marked dark brown and strong, the abdomen feathers somewhat paler. The throat is white, the iris orange - yellow and the ear tufts long and wide - horizontal.

Distribution and ecology

The Giant Fish Owl lives in Russia, China and Japan in dense forests with old trees for its nest and close, not freezing in winter waters for hunting. It feeds mainly on fish, but occasionally hunt small mammals, birds, amphibians, insects and crustaceans.

Especially due to habitat loss from forest -fringed rivers, this species is endangered. It is estimated that still live less than 1,000 animals.
