Blanche I of Navarre

Blanche of Navarre (* July 6, 1387, † April 1, 1441 in Santa María la Real de Nieva, Castile ) was 1425-1441 Queen of Navarre. She was the daughter of King Charles III. and Eleanor of Castile.

She married in 1403 in her first marriage Martin I the boy, King of Sicily, son and heir of Martin I of Aragon. Blanka was thus Queen of Sicily; The marriage remained childless. After the death of Martin's ( 1409 ) she was appointed regent of Sicily.

1420 Blanka married her second husband John of Aragon, the second son of King Ferdinand I, who by this marriage as John II King of Navarre and 1458 was by the death of his older brother Alfonso V also King of Aragon.

After her death, John kept the Kingdom of Navarre, without to have a right, and went over it the rightful heirs, their common children:

  • Charles of Viana (1421-1461), named Charles IV
  • Blanche of Aragon (1424-1464), called Blanka II
  • Eleanor of Navarre (1426-1479) Queen of Navarre.
