Blohm & Voss P.208

The Blohm & Voss P 208 was a study of a single-seater German propeller-driven fighter of the year 1944.

History

The development of the aircraft began in 1944, at a time when actually the era of jet aircraft had already dawned. Since jet engines but not yet provided the required performance, but it was decided at the Blohm & Voss still a hunter to design with piston engine. The project was designed so that it could be converted to jet propulsion readily ( it was later under the designation P 212 evolved as jet powered fighter plane ). Thus, the installation of the engine was done with a rear -mounted pusher propeller with no shaft extension. Pages, treble and ailerons were mounted on the wingtips, making the tail effectiveness was improved by 100%. In order to cope with the burden of the tail, the wings were manufactured in steel shell construction.

Different versions were designed.

P 208.01

For this variant, the use of the Jumo 222 E, F, or N- engine provided.

P 208.02

For this variant, an AS 413 engine with a maximum of 4,000 hp was (composed of two Jumo 213 engines ) are provided.

P 208.03

For this variant, three design proposals were developed. 208.03.01 208.03.02 P and P should have a DB 603L engine received while in P 208.03.03 a DB 603N should be installed. The dimensions of the three designs were the same and also in the weight they were hardly distinguishable.
