Blöndulón

When Blöndulón ( " Blanda Lake " ) is a reservoir on the Kjölurroute in the Icelandic highlands.

Geography

It is located about 25 km north of Hveravelir. Its depth is up to 39 m and it has an area 56-57 km ².

In order to create the lake, the river Blanda with Reftjarnarbungu, approximately in the middle between source and estuary was dammed. Another dam was built at the sources of Kolkukvíslar and directed the water from there via a 25 km long inlet, which also receives other inflows into the reservoir.

Built in 1991, commissioned in Blanda power plant ( Isl Blöndustöð ) lies at a depth of 200 m in an artificial cave and is only accessible by a lift and a 800 m long tunnel passable.

The lake is good for salmon fishing.
