Blue corydoras

The Blue catfish ( Corydoras nattereri ) is an indigenous to the southeastern Brazil freshwater fish. Its range extends from the state of Espírito Santo until after Paraná. There he comes in the Rio Doce, in the Rio Jequitinhonha and the Rio Paraíba do Sul. The species was named after Johann Natterer, who collected the type specimens.

Features

Female Blue armored catfish reach a maximum size of 6.5 cm, males remain slightly smaller with a length of 5.5 cm. The Blue catfish Corydoras has a typical shape and a sleek, blue-gray to brownish staining. The belly is pale to whitish. A blue-black longitudinal binding starts behind the gill cover and extends over the sides of the body above or on the overlap zone of the two bone plate rows and ends at the tail. A brown- black spot located below the buoyant, first dorsal fin ray. The fins are transparent and shining yellowish. Reproduction

Females of blue armored catfish lay per clutch about 30 to 50 relatively large eggs ( ⌀ 2 mm), which hatch after about five days, the young fish that swim freely after a further two days. The young fish are already after three months of 2.5 to 3 cm long.

System

The Blue catfish belongs to the Corydoras paleatus species group that is likely to be spun off into the future of Corydoras and assigned to a new genus.
