Blumenavia tribiotalpaensis

Blumenavia is a fungal genus in the family Stinkmorchelverwandten ( Phallaceae ).

Features

First, the species of the genus Blumenavia appear as a pale brown to dark gray Hexeneis. At maturity opens Hexenei and it stretches the bright orange to whitish Receptaculum out, which is composed of 3 to 5 flat columns. These columns are free and the base, where they lie in the volva, but fused at the top of the fruit body into an arc (similar to a portico ). The inner surfaces of the columns are of special spore slime structures, the so-called " Glebiferen " coated. These are in turn covered by the foul smell Gleba, which, attracts as with all Stinkmorchelartigen, the spore -feeding insects.

Dissemination

The genus Blumenavia includes three species that are native to South America and Africa. Blumenavia rhacodes and Blumenavia tribiotalpaensis are in Mexico, spread to the Caribbean and South America. Blumenavia angolensis was found in addition to the areas already mentioned also in Africa. In Texas, the species was introduced by the transport of exotic plants.
