Bømlafjord Tunnel

The Bømlafjordtunnel (Norwegian Bømlafjordtunnelen ) is an underwater tunnel, which bridges the islands Stord and Bømlo connects the mainland community Sveio with the Norwegian island Føyno and from there in Fylke Hordaland. He is part of the road connecting Trekantsambandet ( German " triangle connection ") that runs within the European Route 39.

With a length of 7888 meters, the building of Norway 's longest underwater tunnel. The largest slope or the maximum gradient be 8.5 %. The lowest point is 262.5 meters below the sea surface. This is the lowest point in the entire network of European routes and the third deepest in Norway after Eiksundtunnel and the Hitratunnel.

Opened April 30, 2000 Tunnel replaced the ferry Skjersholmane - Valevåg. Through the tunnel, at an average of around 4,000 vehicles a day.
