BMW Headquarters

The BMW Headquarters (also BMW Tower, BMW Tower ) is the main administrative buildings and landmarks of the car manufacturer BMW in Munich.

It was built in the period 1968-1973, externally completed in time for the 1972 Summer Olympics and was inaugurated on 18 May 1973. It is 99.5 m high, stands close to the Munich Olympic site and how this is one of the most worthy to see examples of modern architecture in Munich. Right next to it is popularly known as the salad bowl, cereal bowl or white sausage boiler famous BMW Museum. The architect is Karl Schwanzer.

The building consists of four cross-shaped juxtaposed vertical cylinders, each cylinder is again divided vertically by a retraction of the facade above the center. The structure of the building is remarkable, not available as this cylinder on the floor, but hang on the distinctive cantilever arms that protrude from the four reinforced concrete pipes, which form the core of the building, where lines, lifts and stairwells are housed. The individual stories were built on the ground in the shell including façade and glazing and then pulled upward so that the expansion work was done while underneath was the next floor. This huge scaffolds were saved and achieved a considerable amount of time. The tower has a diameter of 52.30 m.

The building has a total of 22 floors, including two basement levels and 18 office floors. The BMW was the highest skyscraper office building upon completion of Munich, but was surpassed a few years later by the 114 meter high Hypo -Hochhaus.

During the Olympic Games in 1972, all BMW logo had to be removed from the buildings, to avoid unwanted surreptitious advertising. This was also true for BMW 2002 models with electric drive that accompanied the Olympic marathon runners on their way.

The heritage protection since 1999 building was renovated from 2004 to August 2006.

Others
