Bob Rockwell

Bob Rockwell (* May 1945 in Miami ( Oklahoma) ) is an American jazz tenor saxophonist and soprano saxophonist.

Bob Rockwell grew up in Minneapolis and began his musical career in various rock and R & B bands. In the late 1960s he worked in Las Vegas; In the early 1970s he moved to New York City, where he worked as a session musician and a with Thad Jones and Mel Lewis, Tito Puente, Ben Sidran, Freddie Hubbard, Ray Drummond, Billy Hart, Rufus Reid, Victor Lewis, Ron McClure, Chuck Israel, John Hicks, Al Foster, Anthony Cox, Bill Dobbins and Richie Beirach worked.

In 1983, he moved to Copenhagen, where he has lived and worked ever since. Rockwell worked there 1986/87 on albums by Tom Harrell and Joe Bonner with and took for the label Steeplechase Records a series of albums, including Jesper Lundgaard and with Butch Lacy, around 1990 in a trio with Rufus Reid and Victor Lewis. In Europe, he also played with Ernie Wilkins, Kenny Drew, Andy LaVerne, Alex Riel, Marilyn Mazur, Kenny Wheeler and Jan Kaspersen. In 1992, he took with Lundgaard on the duo album Light Blue, which denote the critics Richard Cook and Brian Morton as Rockwell's best album; In 1994 he worked on Michael Mantler Cerco Un Paese big-band production Innocente; He also worked in 1995 with Tony Coe and the Danish Radio Jazz Orchestra ( Captain Coe 's Famous Recearound ). In the 2000s he recorded two albums with music by Alec Wilder and Ben Webster for the Danish Stunt label. In 2007, he stepped on the San Sebastian Jazz Festival ( Music for low tide) with Gary Bartz, Jeanne Lee and Jorge Pardo.
