Bobby ValentÃn

Bobby Valentín (born 9 June 1941 in Orocovis, Puerto Rico), actually Roberto Valentín, also known as " El Rey del Bajo " is a Puerto Rican salsa musician and bandleader.

Career

Bobby Valentin learned early on from his father playing guitar. When his mother died in 1947, the family of Orocovis moved to Coamo. At age 11, he took part with a musician trio at a local talent contest and won the first prize as a singer. On the advice of a teacher Valentin visited the Jose I. Quinton Academy of Music, where he learned to play the trumpet among others. 1956 left his family Puerto Rico and moved to New York City where Bobby Valentine the George Washington High School and continued to take music lessons. In 1958 he made the acquaintance with the musician Joe Quijano and played in the group of Willie Rosario, who was growing up in the same area as him.
