Rhoderick John "Bobby" Wallace ( * November 4, 1873 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, † November 3, 1960 in Torrance, California ) was an American baseball player and manager in Major League Baseball.

Biography

Bobby Wallace spent 60 years in professional baseball. His first game for the Cleveland Spiders in the National League, he played on 15 September 1894 as a pitcher. In 1897 he moved to the position of third baseman before he then in 1899 took over his master 's position as shortstop in the jersey of St. Louis Perfectos. Above all, his achievements in the field of play were noteworthy. In 1902 he moved from the Cardinals to city rivals in the American League, the St. Louis Browns. In these he played until the year 1916 with a break from June 1915 to August 1916 where he worked as umpire in the American League. 1911 and 1912 he was also the manager of the St. Louis Browns. In 1917 he moved back to the Cardinals, for whom he played his last game on September 2, 1918. After that, he worked primarily as a scout until he again worked as a manager for the Cincinnati Reds in September 1937.

In 1953 he was picked up by the Veterans Committee in the Baseball Hall of Fame. 1960 Wallace died one day before his 87th birthday.
