Bochum-Laer

Laer [le: r] is a district of Bochum. He was called to become the oldest lifting register of the abbey in the year 890 and incorporated to Bochum on 1 August 1929.

The name is derived from the Old High German Laer Lahari, which means pasture. Today's spelled with Westphalian strain e is local custom not [ la: r] but [le: r] pronounced. The inhabitants of Laer call themselves Laersche.

Bochum- Laer is very influenced by the Opel factory I. Opel is the main employer of the district. Laer is inhabited by all social backgrounds and ethnic diversification is very high. From the deteriorating labor market situation in Bochum in the Ruhr Laer is also affected, so that from a sinking purchasing power index of the population is assumed, which is also reflected in the economy.

The district Laer has a fairly balanced development. The older buildings consist of single-family, townhouses and apartment buildings. From the 1970er-/1980er-Jahren were within a Neighbourhood Renewal new multi-family homes, some as high-rise buildings built. In recent years there has been increased to a densification due to the development of remaining vacant lots.

Laer has a Protestant and a Catholic church. The Catholic Church of Corpus Christi is one for structural reform in the diocese of Essen since August 2008 on the so-called other churches and is no longer used for worship.

The evangelical church is to be demolished in 2013. Furthermore, there are two kindergartens and a primary school. There is a volunteer fire department, a youth club, a allotments, the football club ( LFC Laer ), a table tennis club (TTC Bochum- Laer 1954 ) and a small market place ( Lahariplatz ).

Laer is well served by public transport. Two tram lines (302, 310 ) and two motor bus lines (345, 372) bind the district to the city center and adjacent neighborhoods. Direct connections are made to Bochum Main Station and the Ruhr University. Also side neighborhoods such as Langendreer, Querenburg, Altenbochum and Bochum -Werne are easy to reach. Laer is also accessible by the railway. There is a connecting line which connects the Opel plant in the yard Langendreer. It is the last part is in service of the former freight railway connection from Bochum- Dahlhausen about Weitmar after Langendreer.

Of historical importance House is Laer, a moated castle from the year 940 The manor can be visited and rented for parties and events.
