Bois Blanc Iceland is an island in Lake Huron north of Mackinacstraße and is located in Mackinac County Michigan (USA).

The island is congruent with the Bois Blanc Township. She is 19 km long, 9.6 km wide and has an area of 91.4 km ². Bois Blanc Iceland is located southeast of Mackinac Iceland and north of the city of Cheboygan.

" Bois Blanc " comes from the French word meaning "white wood ".

History

Bois Blanc Iceland was ceded by the local Anishinabe under the Treaty of Greenville in 1795 to the U.S. government. The assignment includes the majority of Ohio, parts of Indiana, 16 strategic locations on Lake Michigan and Mackinac Iceland. While the British - American War, the U.S. Navy fleet sought Captain Arthur Sinclair's on the island of protection to later attack the British at Fort Mackinac. 1880, the alleged murderer Henry English fled to the island in order to escape his trial in Pennsylvania. There, however, he was tracked down and caught by Pinkerton detectives.

In 1827 the island was mapped by the United States. The U.S. Coast Guard established a base at Walker 's Point in 1890. The following year was the " Pointe Aux Pins Association " was founded. In the late 19th century, several summer residences were built on the island.
