BolungarvÃkurgöng
The Bolungarvíkurgöng is a road tunnel in the Westfjords of Iceland.
It was opened on 25 September 2010. It replaces the Óshlíðarvegur, the last piece of Djúpvegurs between Isafjordur and Bolungarvík, which was blocked after exactly 60 years after his inauguration to traffic.
Óshlíð
The old way led directly along the coast to the mountain Óshlíð. It was in an interview to name the tunnel Óshlíðargöng. The Óshlíðarvegur was severely compromised due to rockfall and avalanches.
Details of the tunnel
The new route goes from Bolungarvík to the Hnífsdalur. The tunnel is two-lane (8 feet wide ) and 5426 meters long.
