Bombay Sapphire

Bombay Sapphire gin is an introduced in 1987, of a London recipe from 1761 is based on allegedly. Since 1998 she is part of Bacardi. Striking is typical of the brand protected light blue bottle.

Production and taste

Characteristic of the gin are ten " botanicals" ( herbal ingredients), namely lemon, almond, licorice, juniper, iris, angelica, coriander, cassia, cubeb pepper and grains of paradise, which weaken and complement the typical gin juniper taste, so that it tastes milder than typical London Dry gin. Aromatization of the triple distilled alcohol is effected by means of a steam infusion method (following distillation), i.e., the herbal hanging in a copper basket above the alcohol, the vapor absorbs the flavors. The later added water should come from the Lake Vyrnwy in Wales.

Alcohol and reference

Traditional Bombay Sapphire contains 47% alcohol, but was offered on the German market between 2004 and 2007 only in a reduced drinking strength of 40%. This led to criticism in professional circles and to a loss of image, as much of the alcohol contributes to the transport and the development of flavors in a gin. Since 2007, Bacardi imported even back filling with 47% alcohol content by Germany, which can be found in the restaurant business, in duty- free shops at airports and in the specialist retail and mail order (mostly in 1.0 liter bottles ), while the food retailing continues almost exclusively leads the variant with 40 % alcohol in the 0.7 liter bottle.
