Bombina maxima

The Riesenunke (Bombina maxima), also called Chinese Riesenunke, belongs within the order of Anura to the " primitive " family Bombinatoridae and to the species of toads.

Depending on the source of their maximum size is specified with seven to ten centimeters, with the former number is probably more realistic. Oberseits resembles the Riesenunke in appearance something of European yellow-bellied toad, as it is also colored gray - brown and strong bewarzt. However, the warts are bigger and sometimes the animals remind me of a toad with parotid. The warning colors of the ventral side (see: toads reflex) are also crimson.

It occurs in the southern Chinese provinces of Sichuan and Yunnan, is recognized as a relatively common species of amphibian. Habitats are lakes, ponds and ditches in the hill country, the semi - aquatil inhabited the Riesenunke, like all Bombina species. The environment should have a lush vegetation.
