Boone Station

The Boone Station State Historic Site is a state park in the U.S. state of Kentucky. The 18 -acre park is located in Lexington, Fayette County. In December 1779 founded the American pioneer Daniel Boone and his family Boone Station, after them the settlement of Boonesborough was too large. In its heyday, lived 15 to 20 families in Boone Station. Daniel Boone and his family had severe setbacks during the period when they lived in Boone Station. His son Israel and his nephew Thomas Boone fell in the Battle of Blue Licks in 1781, his brother Edward was killed in Bourbon County by Indians. In addition to her claim of ownership on Boone Station in 1781 invalid so that Boone and the other settlers were forced to leave the settlement. 1791 was completely abandoned the settlement, in 1795 bought a Robert Frank over 200 acres of land including the site of Boone Station and built here for his family a new house. Daniel Boone and his family moved finally to the Louisiana Territory. The site of the former Boone Station in 1991 the State of Kentucky as a gift from Robert C. Strader, which opened in 1992, the state park here. In the earlier pioneer settlement, however, indicate only a memorial and information boards. In the park there is a one-kilometer long trail and picnic facilities.
