Boris Asafyev

Boris Vladimirovich Assafjew ​​(Russian Борис Владимирович Асафьев, pseudonym Igor Glebov (Russian Игорь Глебов ) * 17 Julijul / July 29 1884greg in Saint Petersburg, .. † January 27, 1949 in Moscow) was a Russian musicologist and composer.

Life

Assafjew ​​studied at the St. Petersburg Conservatory with Nikolai Rimsky- Korsakov and Anatoly Ljadow. In 1910 he was Ballettkorrepetitor at the St. Petersburg Mariinsky Theatre. Since 1921, he headed the Department of Music of the State Institute of Art History. In 1925 he founded the Music Faculty of the Conservatory in Leningrad. From 1943 he was head of the Art History Institute in Moscow.

Assafjew ​​composed ten operas, several ballets, three symphonies, two cantatas and songs. He also appeared as an author musicological works out ( inter alia, the musical form as a process, the music in Russia).
