Boris Khaykin

Boris Emmanuilovich Chaikin (Russian Борис Эммануилович Хайкин, born 13 Oktoberjul / October 26 1904greg in Minsk, then Russian Empire, now Belarus, .. † May 10, 1978 in Moscow) was a Soviet conductor. He is above all things for his two highly acclaimed recordings of Mussorgsky's Khovanshchina known ( 1946, with Mark Ossipowitsch travel; 1972, with Irina Arkhipova Konstantinovna ), but was also a brilliant exponent of the operas and ballets of Tchaikovsky.

He studied in Moscow, where he conducted from 1928 to 1935 at the Nemirovich -Danchenko Theater. 1936-1943 he was the artistic director of the Leningrad "Little Opera House ", then to 1953, chief conductor of the Kirov Theatre. In 1954, he became a regular guest conductor of the Moscow Bolshoi Theatre. 1947 Chaikin was raised to the People's Artist of the RSFSR in 1972 and People's Artist of the USSR.
