Boris Vilkitsky

Boris Andreyevich Wilkizki (Russian Борис Андреевич Вилькицкий, scientific transliteration Boris Andreevič Vil'kickij; * 22 Märzjul / April 3 1885greg in Pulkovo, .. † March 6, 1961 in Brussels ) was an officer in the Imperial Russian Navy and hydrograph.

Boris Wilkizki, son of geodesics and hydrographer Andrei Wilkizki, tried in the months of June to November 1913 during the " Hydrographic Expedition of the Arctic Ocean " to force the ice-breaking cargo ships Taimyr and Waigatsch the northeastern passage from Vladivostok to Arkhangelsk. However Wilkizki failed in the ice off Cape Tscheljuskin. The local strait between the Taymyr Peninsula and Severnaya Zemlya, the archipelago was subsequently called by Boris Wilkizki Wilkizkistraße.
