Bořivoj Čelovský

Boris Čelovský, actually Bořivoj Čelovský ( born September 8, 1923 in Ostrava- Heřmanice, † February 12, 2008 ) was a Czech historian and philosopher. His works dealt mostly with the Czech- German relations.

Life

After the communist takeover in 1948 in Czechoslovakia Čelovský studied at the University of Heidelberg, then emigrated to Canada, changed his name to Boris Celovsky and continued his studies at the Université de Montréal in trade Modern history continues. He wrote his dissertation on the Munich Agreement in 1938. Having finally settling in Canada, he worked at the Federal Statistical Office for the government. At the same time he worked for the counterintelligence of the government to monitor Czechoslovak spies. He later became a consultant of various Canadian politicians and designed the most liberal Canadian immigration law at that time. After the Velvet Revolution, he went back to his hometown of Ostrava and published there several of his works in the Czech language.

Čelovský died after a serious illness in his apartment. In his honor, a street was named after him.
