Borðoy to 2006 was joined by a car ferry to the port on the western Leirvík Eysturoy. Since then, a toll undersea tunnel connects the two islands. The eastern neighboring island Viðoy combines a causeway which was opened in 1963. Thither lead two single-track tunnels, which were opened in 1965 and 1967 respectively. The northwestern island Kunoy can be reached via another causeway since 1988.
