Borschiv

Borschtschiw (Ukrainian Борщів; Russian Борщёв / Borschtschjow, Polish Borszczow ) is a small Ukrainian town of approximately 11,000 residents east of the river Nitschlawa, a tributary of the Dniester.

Borschtschiw is the center of Rajons same name and is located on the southern edge of the Ternopil Oblast, north lie Chortkiv and - about 110 kilometers - the Oblasthauptstadt Ternopil.

History

An exact founding date of Borschtschiw is unknown; The first written mention dates from 1456, and in 1629 received the place the city right after the Magdeburg law.
