Boscoreale

Boscoreale is a town with 27,855 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012) on the southern slope of Mount Vesuvius in the Province of Naples in the Italian region of Campania.

The place is not far from Pompeii. In the eruption of Vesuvius of 79 place like Pompeii, Herculaneum and Stabiae was buried. The neighboring municipalities are Boscotrecase, Poggio Marino, Pompei, Scafati (SA), Terzigno and Torre Annunziata.

Boscoreale was unearthed by excavations in the late 19th century, when the Roman Villa of Publius Fanninus Sinistor (Villa Boscoreale ) and about 30 agricultural property ( villa rustica) known. In one of them, called Villa della Pisanella, was found in 1895 the so-called Treasure of Boscoreale. 1978-1983 were renewed, out bending tests held in Boscoreale. Since 1991 exists in Boscoreale an archaeological museum, the Antiquarium di Boscoreale, where finds from Oplontis, Pompeii, Stabiae and Boscoreale are issued. Incorporated within the museum grounds outside a typical Villa Rustica smaller dimension can be visited.

Demography

Boscoreale counts 9,748 households. Between 1991 and 2001 the population increased from 27,310 to 27,618. This represents a percentage increase of 1.1%.
