Bossonnens

Bossonnens ( Freiburg Patois Bossounin? / I ) is a municipality in the district Veveyse (German Vivisbach ) of the canton of Fribourg in Switzerland. The former German name Bossum is no longer used today.

Geography

Bossonens located in the south of the canton at the border with the Canton of Vaud. The neighboring communities are Granges ( Veveyse) and Attalens to Freiburg side, and Oron to the canton of Vaud page.

Population

With a stand of more than 1,100 inhabitants as of 2000, the population mostly Roman Catholic ( about 70 %) and French- speaking (about 90%) is. About 20% of the population are Protestant.

Government

A community meeting takes place several times a year and is the legislative body. A council of seven persons from the Executive.

Economy

Two-thirds of employed persons working in the service sector. Almost another third is engaged in the industrial sector. Less than five percent employed in agriculture.

History

The first traces of settlement are caves that were carved into boulders. In 1829 a Roman villa was discovered underground baths. The building was built in the 1st century and destroyed by 260. It seems that the first Alemanni have settled in the region at this time. There are also the Alemanni, who gave the place its name. Under the form Bucenens the city name is mentioned for the first time at the millennium ( 971-1011 ).

In the second half of the 12th century, the Bossonnens castle was built by the Blonay family. The heyday of the castle Bossonnens was short-lived, and already in 1536 the estate was acquired by the city of Freiburg. Today, the castle ruins and Bossonnens is a small village in the hinterland of the town of Vevey.
