Rowley's Palm Lanzenotter ( Bothriechis rowleyi )

Rowley's Palm Lanzenotter ( Bothriechis rowleyi ) is a species of snake in the genus of palm Terciopelos ( Bothriechis ) within the subfamily of pit vipers ( Crotalinae ). It is found in Mexico in the southeastern Oaxaca and northern Chiapas.

Features

Rowley's Palm Lanzenotter reaches a body length of up to about one meter. She has served as full-grown snake a green ground color, while young snakes are bright green yellow. As a rule, it does not have a drawing pattern, but may occasionally have black or yellow spots. The belly is plain yellowish green, the tail is black. The head is on the top monochrome green and only in young animals brown or purplish patches occur, a black temporal band does not exist. The iris is black.

Distribution and habitat

The range of the snake is limited to parts of Mexico in southeastern Oaxaca and northern Chiapas. She comes here in the cloud forests at altitudes of 1500-1830 meters.

System

Rowley's Palm fer de lance is one of seven species of palm Terciopelos ( Bothriechis ) and thus the American pit vipers. Until a few years the entire genus was assigned to the American Terciopelos ( Bothrops ). After the revision of the former wholesale genus by Burger in 1971 and Steven D. Werman 1992, the assignment was made as a separate genus.

Within the Palm Terciopelos provides Rowley Palm Lanzenotter the sister species of Gelbgefleckten Palm Lanzenotter (B. aurifer ) dar.
