Bouasone Bouphavanh

Bouasone Bouphavanh ( born June 3, 1954 in Ban Tao Poun, Salavan Province) from 2006 to 2010, the Prime Minister of Laos. He was appointed on 8 June 2006 by the National Assembly. He took the place of Boungnang Vorachith, who was vice-president. Since October 3, 2003 he was first deputy prime minister, before third vice head of government and head of the State Planning Committee.

He was trained in the Soviet Union. He is part of the new generation of leadership of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party. In the Politburo, it ranks seventh. In 1975, he played just before Vientiane fell to the Pathet Lao, a key role as a student activist against the previous regime. He is a protege of former party chief Khamtay Siphandone.

On 23 December 2010 Bouphavanh came surprisingly back for family reasons, and was succeeded by the current President of the Parliament Thongsing Thammavong.
