Bouëx

Bouëx is a municipality with 933 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Charente region of France in the Poitou -Charentes.

Location

The community Bouëx lies at an altitude of about 140 meters above sea level. inst about 17 km ( driving distance ) south-east of Angoulême in the ancient cultural landscape of the Angoumois. The river flows through the municipal area Échelle.

Demographics

In the 19th century, the community had mostly between 700 and 900 inhabitants; due to the phylloxera crisis in the wine and the mechanization of agriculture of the population decreased since 1880 continuously from the lows in the 1950s and 1960s. Being close to Angoulême, in the countryside significantly lower property prices in the last few decades back a population increase is observed.

Economy

The residents of the community lived for centuries on the principles of self-sufficiency from agriculture; Market towns were too far away. The soils of the community still belong to the Bons Bois of the vineyard Cognac, but the paragraphs in expensive brandies and even with wine in recent decades tended to shrink, so that the wine is no longer important. Revenue from tourism, especially the rental of apartments ( gîtes ), are become much more important since the 1960s.

History

A family of the lords ( seigneurs ) of Boueix 's been handed down from the Middle Ages.

Attractions

• The Romanesque parish church ( Église Saint- Étienne ) goes back to the 12th century and was the former chapel; however, it was restored repeatedly over time. Interestingly, the rib- vaulted Gothic apse; The small bell tower dates from the 17th century.
• The Château de Boueix stands in the center; it is a two-wing building from the 15th and 17-18. Century and consists only of a plastered floor and a converted attic with Lukarnenfenstern. A square watchtower stands apart somewhat. The complex is privately owned is recognized as a monument historique since 2009.
• Also in the center is a non-covered wash area ( lavoir ) from the 19th century.
