Bouzeron

Bouzeron is a commune of 150 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Saône -et -Loire in the Burgundy region. The church is known for the eponymous wine region.

Geography

Bouzeron located on an average altitude of 238 meters above sea level in a valley between the mountains of the Hermitage and the film, 14 kilometers northwest of Chalon -sur -Saône, the sub-prefecture of the arrondissements, and 3 kilometers southwest of Chagny, the capital of the canton. The municipality has an area of 3.7 square kilometers.

History

Bouzeron was in Gallo-Roman times (52 BC to 486 AD), founded in the 3rd or 4th century and was then called Boserontis Villa, estate of Bozeron '. Charles the Bald ( 823-877 ) gave the locality 872 of the abbey of Saint -Marcel- les -Chalon Saint -Marcel.

1793 received Bouzeron as Bouzerons in the wake of the French Revolution ( 1789-1799 ) the status of a municipality and 1801 under the current name, the right to local self-government. Most residents (280 ), the municipality had in 1886, the least (145 ) in 1999.

Culture and sights

On the boundary between the baronies Bouzeron and Monton are two landmarks of the 15th century, decorated with the arms of each noble family. They have been classified as a monument historique in 1915 ( historic monument ').

In the Church of Saint -Marcel is a statue from the 17th century, representing the local saints Marcellus. The statue of gilded wood was classified as a monument historique in 1914.

On the mountain Ermitage, the archaeological site of Camp romain (, Roman military camp ') is from ur - or early historic times. It was classified in 1921 as a monument historique.

There is also a Lavoir (, wash house ') with a fountain from the 19th century.

Economy

The main industry in Bouzeron is winegrowing, grapes are grown the variety Aligoté. The white wine produced locally carries the protected designation of origin (AOC ) Bouzeron.
