Geography
Location and transport
Bovenau lies about 10 km east of Rendsburg on the federal highway 210 from Rendsburg to Kiel. North of the village are the former Eider Canal with the lock at Kluvensiek and the North Sea-Baltic Canal.

Good Kluvensiek
The manor was first mentioned in 1450. The present mansion was built in 1770 and rebuilt in 1837.
Good Osterrade
The estate, which today is among the Kiel Canal and the Eider Canal, built in the 16th century. The present mansion was built in 1723 by Detlev Brockdorff and later adjusted in Classicism.

Good stone weir
The estate was originally a Grange to the goods Kluvensiek and Osterrade and became independent only in 1806. The mansion, built in 1763 is now directly on the Kiel Canal, where it has its own pier. The estate is also used today for agriculture, especially for the raspberry cultivation.
History
Bovenau was mentioned in 1240 for the first time as Kirchdorf. The name is derived from the Low German " boven de Au " which means " above the Au " means so much. In the field of settlement several burial mounds were found.

Eider -channel lock Kluvensiek
Located near Good Kluvensiek is in the course of the former Eider Canal, the lock Kluvensiek. The lock with former bascule bridge was restored in 2012.
Mary Magdalene Church
The Bovenauer church was after the battle of Bornhöved ( 1227 ) by Count Adolf IV of Schauenburg donated as a "thank Church." Because Mary Magdalene the Holy days of July 22, the day of the battle is, the church was consecrated her. Wakendorfer mill
The Naturerlebnisraum " Wakendorfer mill " was recognized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Areas of Schleswig- Holstein in 2009. This runs along the creek " Bovenau " in the south- east of the community.
